Take Your Dive Course in Playa del Carmen, Scuba Certification!
Scuba diving can be a fun and exciting way to explore the underwater world. It allows divers to see a wide variety of marine life, such as colorful fish, coral reefs, and other sea creatures, that cannot be seen from the surface. But in order to access the world underneath the waves, you need to have a scuba certification – usually referred to as an open water scuba diver.
In this blog, we’ll tell you what a scuba certification is, and why you need one. We will also explain how you can dive without a scuba certification too. Read on to find out more.
What is a Scuba Certification?
Just like diving a car, to be able to scuba dive you need to be certified. This is because a scuba diving certification is required to ensure that divers have the necessary training and knowledge to safely and responsibly dive in open water.
The first level in your scuba certification is your PADI open water.
The certification process involves completing a course that covers topics such as diving physics and physiology, dive equipment, dive planning, and emergency procedures. This course usually takes around 3 days to complete, with a half day spent in the training pool and 4 dives completed in open water.
Once certified, it allows divers to access a wide range of dive sites and descend to a depth of 18 meters / 60 feet. You can dive with just a buddy and the PADI certification is accepted globally.
What Do I Need to Do to Pass My Open Water Scuba Certification in Playa Del Carmen?
When you do your scuba diving open water certification in Playa del Carmen with DEEP, you have a mixture of practical and theoretical aspects to study. There is a textbook with modules and knowledge reviews which you need to pass along with a final exam.
There are also 5 confined water modules which are usually completed in the course of a morning in the divers pool. You then take part in four open water dives (over the course of 2 days) where you complete the dive skills taught in the confined water, but this time in the open ocean.
At all times you will have your instructor close by to help you with any challenges that you may have. Your instructor is able to support you with anything you find tricky and show you how to complete your dive skills safely and properly.
Do I Need Any Of My Own Equipment To Do My Scuba Diving Certification, Playa Del Carmen?
Scuba diving is a sport that requires a lot of equipment, and it can get costly if you need to buy it all before you even dip your toes in! For your open water course (and all diving with DEEP Mexico!) you can rent your equipment.
Our rental equipment is clean, comes in a range of sizes and is well maintained. It’s also handy as a newer diver to try a range of equipment before you buy anyway, so that you can see which brands and styles fit you best and you prefer anyway.
What Comes Next After My Open Water Scuba Certification?
After completing your Open Water Diver certification, divers can progress to more advanced levels of diving education and certification.
The progression includes
Advanced Open Water Diver
This course allows divers to expand their diving skills and knowledge, and includes training in areas such as deep diving, navigation, and peak performance buoyancy.
Rescue Diver
This course teaches divers how to recognize and respond to diving emergencies, and includes training in rescue and first aid techniques.
Master Diver
Master Scuba Diver is a certification level that recognizes divers who have completed a certain number of dives and a variety of dive training courses.
You can also take part in a variety of specialty courses to improve you diving skills. These courses focus on specific types of diving, such as night diving, wreck diving, or underwater photography, and allow divers to gain more specialized knowledge and skills.
Can You Scuba Dive Without Certification in Playa Del Carmen?
A PADI Open water certification is needed to be a qualified diver and dive without instruction across the globe. If you do not have the certification, and do not wish to complete the open water course, you can still experience scuba diving through a ‘Discover Scuba Diving’ (DSD) day.
On a DSD dive day, you will still do some training, and will be taken to the divers pool with your instructor so that you can learn to feel comfortable under the water wearing the scuba equipment.
You will also learn some of the basic skills, such as how to retrieve your regulator, and how to clear your dive mask in case some water enters it.
After the pool training, you’ll be able to dive in the ocean (under the very close supervision of your instructors) to see the fish and life under the water’s surface!
This takes a full day usually, due to the additional training needed. If you plan on diving regularly, you’re better off getting your full scuba certification. A DSD dive is also limited on the depth they can go to, which makes getting your open water certification a better plan if you want to explore more places.
